At Laser Way Clinic, one of the most common questions we hear is: “Do hair transplants hurt?”
The short answer: not as much as you might think. Thanks to modern techniques and expert care, hair transplants are generally well-tolerated and not considered painful.
Before we begin, we apply local anesthesia to numb your scalp, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Some patients may notice mild pressure or discomfort, but most describe the experience as very manageable. Our team monitors your comfort from start to finish, ensuring the smoothest and most relaxed experience possible.

Once the anesthesia wears off — usually a few hours later — you might feel some mild soreness or tenderness in the treated areas. This is temporary and can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers or medication we prescribe for you.
Most of our patients say that any discomfort fades within just a few days.
How Long Does the Pain Last After a Hair Transplant?
Every person heals differently, but here’s what you can generally expect after your procedure at Laser Way Clinic:
First 24–48 hours
- Mild soreness or tenderness may occur in the donor area, where hair is taken from. It can also happen in the recipient area, where hair is implanted.
- Some swelling and redness — this is completely normal.
3–7 days after
- Pain usually decreases significantly.
- You may feel some tightness or itching as the scalp begins to heal.
1–2 weeks after
- Any discomfort is usually minimal or gone completely.
- Some patients still feel light itching or sensitivity, but this is not painful.
If you choose FUE hair transplant (our most popular method), discomfort is usually milder and recovery is faster compared to FUT.
How to Reduce Pain After a Hair Transplant
Our goal is to make your recovery as smooth as possible. We provide a post-op care package with everything you need, plus clear instructions. Key tips include:
- Take your medication – Use prescribed or recommended pain relievers and antibiotics as directed.
- Keep your head elevated – Sleep with extra pillows for the first few nights to reduce swelling.
- Avoid touching or scratching – This protects your new grafts.
- Rest and avoid heavy exercise for about a week.
- Stay hydrated and eat well to speed healing.
- Follow all aftercare instructions and attend your follow-up visits.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol — both slow healing.
Donor Area Discomfort
The donor area may feel slightly sore or tight for a few days — this is normal. With the FUE method, most patients feel a noticeable improvement by day 3–4, and discomfort is minimal or gone by the second week.
A few patients describe a mild “burning” sensation in the donor area in the first days — this is due to tiny healing incisions and usually disappears quickly with proper care.
