Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a hair transplantation method during which individual hair follicles are removed from the donor area using a special tool and then implanted in the targeted problem areas.

What is "FUE"?

Hair transplant using “Sapphire FUE” is a minimally invasive procedure with fast recovery times.

FUE transplantation is considered an effective solution to combat hair loss for most of the people concerned, and has gained increasing popularity in recent years.

As with any medical technology, the advances in hair transplantation in recent years have been tremendous – the days of visibly visible head marks are over.

Thanks to the use of micromotors and sapphire blades, patients now benefit from much more complete and natural end results.

How is a "Sapphire FUE" transplant performed?

Sapphire FUE transplant – as the name suggests – is performed through the use of sapphire blades (as opposed to traditional steel blades).

The benefits of using sapphire gemstone for cutting are significant and include::

Hair transplants with follicular unit extraction are delicate procedures, as both the donor area and the target area must be treated with local anesthesia. Only then can the procedure begin

The first step is to extract the hair follicles, one by one, from the donor area with the help of a micromotor and micro-punch, creating extraction sites with sizes ranging from 0.7 mm to 0.9 mm.
Using the “FUE” technique, the extracted hair follicles are then transplanted into the canals that have been created in the area where the seeding will be applied.

Opening the channels is the most important part of the procedure – full and natural coverage can only be achieved if the channels are created following the patient’s natural angle and direction of hair growth. These channels directly affect the density of the transplanted hair and the quality of the final result.

This is why sapphire blades are so important for a successful FUE hair transplant. The sapphire blades allow the surgeon to create very thin canals, from 1.4mm to 1.5mm.

The main advantage of sapphire blades is that they are significantly sharper than steel blades.

First, sharper blades allow for finer cuts. Finer incisions mean the surgeon can create more canals. More channels means more hair transplanted, which in turn means a dense and natural end result.
Even the smallest incisions greatly reduce the risk of bleeding, both during and after the procedure.

Furthermore, the transplanted hair follicles located in the finer canals are unlikely to shift or fall out during the healing process.
Another important benefit of sapphire blades is that they allow for a much faster and safer healing process – sapphire blades cause far less damage to surrounding tissues and minimize the chance of infection.

Hair transplantation with the “Sapphire FUE” method allows for faster healing, minimal risk of infection and minimal or no scars (teeth).

During the 6-7 hour hair transplant process, both the donor area and the intended recipient area are placed under local anesthesia.

Recovery and results

Although Sapphire FUE hair transplantation is a minimally invasive and low-risk procedure, it has some post-operative side effects.

  • As with any hair transplant technique, pain and swelling are to be expected in the following days. But everything is normal, and these symptoms disappear a few days after the operation.
  • During the next 3 – 4 weeks, it is also normal and to be expected that there will be a slight loss of some transplanted hair. This does not affect future hair growth as their roots are already embedded in the scalp.

The first new hair growth usually occurs around 2 months after the procedure, while the final results can be seen around 11 months after the procedure.
